Browser Recorder
Record your camera and mic straight from the browser, with a level meter and a countdown.
Sample
The check the recorder runs before every take, worked out by the same code the recorder uses. The camera stays off until you unlock the tool and press Start preview.

The recorder tries MP4 first, then WebM, and uses the first one your browser can make. MP4 opens in most editors. Audio only gives you one M4A file of about 1.9 MB a minute.
Works in current Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on computers and phones. Source: MDN Web Docs, checked 2026-10-04.
Mic check
Made-up levels, measured with the meter’s own maths
- Peak now
- -10.8 dB
- Average now
- -21.2 dB
- Loudest
- -6.9 dB
Right where it should be: peaks between -12 and -6 dB.
Record your own take
- Record camera and mic, or just your mic, at 720p or 1080p
- A live level meter that warns you before you clip
- A 3-2-1 countdown, with pause and resume
- A separate audio file with every take, ready for your editor
- Files save to your computer, and nothing uploads
Before you hit record
- Camera
- Put the lens at eye level, about an arm’s length away, and look at the lens rather than at yourself. Leave a little space above your head.
- Light
- Face your main light. A window in front of you works well; a bright window behind you turns you into a silhouette. Switch off overhead lights that throw shadows under your eyes.
- Mic
- Keep the mic a hand’s width to a forearm’s length from your mouth, a little off to the side. Talk at your normal volume and watch the meter: peaks around -12 to -6 dB.
- Room and test
- Close the door, silence your phone and record 10 seconds first. Play it back with headphones before the real take.
The full checklist for before, during and after a session, plus the settings I start from, is in the Creator Recording Kit.
