Perplexity releases open text-and-image retrieval models

Perplexity released 0.6B and 9B late-interaction embedding models that can search rendered document pages and images with text queries. The models share an embedding space and are publicly available on Hugging Face. Perplexity’s benchmark claims are its own; multi-vector indexes also cost more storage and scoring work than single-vector search.
