US senators propose liability rules for AI-agent hacking

Senators Chris Murphy and Josh Hawley announced the bipartisan AI Agent Accountability Act on October 1. The proposal would address operator and developer liability for certain AI-agent hacking incidents, including safeguards and knowledge requirements described by the sponsors. It is proposed US legislation, not an enacted law or an immediate new obligation for every business using an agent.
