Hawley proposes guardrails for AI-powered license-plate camera networks

Senator Josh Hawley announced plans to introduce the Stop Flock Abuse Act on September 30. His proposal would restrict sharing of vehicle-location data, require approved searches and audit logs, mandate encryption and US data storage, and generally limit retention to ten days with investigation exceptions. It also proposes excluding facial recognition from these networks. These are proposed US safeguards, not rules already in force.
