This one secret saves 10 hours a week.
Imagine a meeting note that says, 'Maybe we should redo the onboarding emails.' That isn't an assignment. A useful draft can keep the idea, then leave the owner and the deadline open. Check what was actually agreed before it becomes work on someone's board.
Last line: And that's why
2 promises the body doesn't back up. Fix those first.
- 2 to fix
- 1 could be better
- 4 OK
And that's why this one secret saves 10 hours a week.
- Fix:Numbers the body backs upThe body never mentions 10. Use a number the piece supports, or explain it in the body.
- Fix:The body pays it offNone of the opening's main words (secret, saves, hours) come up in the body. Check that the body delivers what the opening promises.
- Could be better:No bait phrases"secret" promises without saying anything. Name the actual problem or the actual payoff instead.
- OK:Short enough8 words.
- OK:Starts with the pointIt starts with something, not a warm-up.
- OK:Says what it is aboutThe subject is named.
- OK:Loop seamRead the joined sentence aloud: it should sound like one natural sentence.

What’s in the room
Five editors, one rule
These are the editors I wrote for my own scripts, posts and Shorts. Each one has one job, and they share one rule: never invent a number, a quote, a client or an experience to make the writing better.
- Hook Harry When the first line is weak
- Writes two or three openings that differ in approach, then picks the strongest one the body actually pays off.
- Storytelling Sarah When an experience should land
- Turns what really happened into a story with a point, without inventing a detail, a quote or a happy ending.
- Funny Fran When you wonder if a joke would help
- A guide to when a joke helps and when it doesn’t: one beat in the right spot, aimed at the process and never the person, and often none at all.
- Person Pete When it sounds stiff
- Makes the smallest edit that sounds like you, keeping every number, quote and qualifier.
- Shorts Hook Looper When a Short needs a hook or a loop
- Makes sure the payoff lands on the first watch, then builds a loop back to the first line when it fits.
