FTC orders nine companies to explain personalized pricing and pay practices

On October 28 the U.S. Federal Trade Commission issued Section 6(b) information orders to nine airlines, ride-hailing, delivery and retail companies. The agency is studying whether personal data and algorithms affect what customers pay or gig workers earn; the companies have 45 days from receiving the orders to respond. This is an information-gathering inquiry, not an enforcement finding that the named firms used AI to discriminate or broke the law.
