Google tests watermarks that survive from AI protein designs into the lab

Google DeepMind introduced SynthID Bio, a proof of concept for watermarking AI-generated protein sequences and structures. The researchers report laboratory tests in which watermarked designs retained function, and are sharing methods, code and research artifacts. They also identify deliberate tampering as an unresolved challenge. This is research into provenance and biosecurity, not a guarantee that synthetic biology is safe or a new regulatory requirement.
